Nicholis Valpolicella/Amarone tasting

 Saturday November 22nd
The landscape of Valpolicella is characterized by lush rolling hills and valleys where the mild climate plays an important role. The land of Valpolicella is a treasure in richness. Those who see it for the first time instantly fall in love with the endless sea of green vineyards. We were born here, and we have a special bond with the land. Every time a vine grows, bears fruit and becomes an exceptional wine, reminds us of the important bond between us and the land. The history of our family has always been involved in the art of viticulture. We live in San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica Area, and since 1951 we have been producing world-class wines and incorporating our own personal goals with the history and uniqueness of the Valpolicella area. The care for our land has been part of our daily life since childhood. This sensitivity has been passed down to us from our father Angelo, who transformed his passion for his land into the meticulous art of wine making. We his sons now have the mission to carry on the family tradition. Giancarlo focuses his attention on the vineyards and Giuseppe ensures the winemaking is true to his father’s beliefs of a natural and refined wine. Our family has 90 hectares (222 acres) of which 42 are vineyards. This guarantees that each vineyard has the finest and the most suitable soil in order for us to create an extraordinary wine. Our vineyards at the foot of the hills will produce young and fruity wines, while the higher hills with their special microclimate are truly the best area for our renowned wines - Amarone and Recioto. The elegant and powerful body of the Amarone reminds us of the sun. Its fragrance is full of ripe fruits and spicy notes, in addition to a harmonious and intense palate which represents the complex richness of our grapes. On the other hand, the floral notes of the Recioto wine is an homage to the wild roses adorning our hills. These are our wines -  a sensory journey through the splendour of our unique land. The company is run in the form of sustainable agriculture that follows the intent of the European laws.  Due to the use of photovoltaic panels and reuse of the vine shoots in order to power our boilers, our winery is ecological and ‘green’ certified and received an A+ energy class certification. Since 1978, when the very first wine was bottled at the winery, we have earned numerous awards for our wines both nationally and internationally at competitions. These awards and further information about the Nicolis winery and all of our wines are available on our website: www.vininicolis.com.
